A contention set is ICANN's, taken from its Reveal Day file. ICANN publishes an updated list on String Confirmation Day.
Three kinds of string are here, and each got in a different way.
A published grouping. Radix published its 46 applications grouped into seven
categories of its own, and its AI category holds eight strings: .agent,
.agentic, .agi, .asi, .intelligence, .mcp, .mind and .robotics. It
files .labs, .neo, .quantum and .stack under Technology instead. Those
four are not recorded here, because the company that applied for them says they
are something else.
Words for the technology. .brain, .chatbot, .cobot, .llm, .model,
.prompt and .robot were claimed in public before ICANN published. Nine more
joined when its list came out: .agentid, .aiagent, .aiglasses, .droid, .genie,
.neural, .nlp, .robotaxi and .superintelligence. Where an application
defines its string, that definition is what put it here: the .agentid
application describes a naming service for AI agents, .aiglasses is defined as
AI enabled eyewear, .genie as an intelligent assistant, and
.superintelligence as an advanced AI system.
Names of models and assistants. .alexa, .chatgpt, .claude, .codex,
.copilot, .dola, .doubao, .gemini, .gemma, .gpt, .llama, .lyria,
.metaai, .qwen, .veo, .wan and .zia each name a model or an assistant
rather than the company behind it.
A string that is a company’s own name is left out of every group on this
tracker, and that is why .anthropic, .deepmind, .oai and .openai are not
members. The same line keeps banks out of finance
and retailers out of commerce.
The strings in excluded are the ones that contain a keyword and are not AI.
Most of them carry the letters “ai” and nothing else: .airbnb, .akamai,
.daiwa, .haier, .mail, .painting, .retail and .trail among them. A
filter built on substring matching would have returned every one.
.registeredagent is the same trap on a different keyword: it contains agent,
and it is a term from company formation.
