A contention set is ICANN's, taken from its Reveal Day file. ICANN publishes an updated list on String Confirmation Day.
The group is deliberately narrower than “business”. .brand, .founder,
.firm, .official and .project are all commercial words, and Radix files them
under Business in its own published grouping, but a filter that returns every
string a company might use is a filter that returns the whole catalogue.
Membership here is limited to words for selling and for getting goods to a
buyer.
Nine more joined when ICANN published its list. Six of them are defined in
their applications in those terms: .goods as items that may be bought, sold or exchanged, .mall as a
place where shops come together, .order as a request to buy, .ship as
sending goods, .depot as a place of deposit for goods, and .logistics as the
movement and storage of goods. .bazaar, .laden and .vend are named only as
replacement strings, so no application defines them; they are here as words for
a market, a shop in German, and selling.
Three near neighbours are not members. .product and .products are defined as
things that are made, which is wider than selling them, and the .pos
application gives the string two readings, point of sale and point of service.
A string that is a company’s own name is left out of every group on this tracker, which is why the retailers and marketplaces in ICANN’s list are not here.
.smartcity is the reason this file carries a keywords list. It contains
“mart”, it is in the catalogue, and a substring filter would have put urban
infrastructure in a shopping category. .cartoon and .workshop are the same
trap on “cart” and “shop”, and .shopify is a company’s name.
