ICANN’s published list for the 2026 new gTLD round holds 18 applications from Meta Registry Holdings LLC. In the responses ICANN publishes with each application, the applicant states that it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Meta Platforms, Inc.
None of the 18 names a replacement string. ICANN’s list marks 12 of them as Brand.
- Marked as Brand, 12:
.facebook,.insta,.instagram,.llama,.messenger,.meta,.metaai,.metaglasses,.muse,.reels,.threadsand.whatsapp. - Not marked as Brand, 6:
.agent,.aiglasses,.frommeta,.metaverse,.superintelligenceand.wearables.
The list also marks .meta as a self-designated geographic name.
Contention sets. ICANN’s Reveal Day contention set file places one of the
18 in a set: .agent. That set is the largest in the file, with 13
applications, and it also holds applications from Charleston Road Registry
Inc., Google’s registry, and from OPENAI OPCO, LLC.
The other 17 applications are in no set in that file. ICANN publishes an updated list of contention sets on String Confirmation Day, 17 November.
